Trim a video — fast, without losing quality

Drop a video, drag the handles to the part you want and save. The video is copied, not re-encoded — a 2 GB file is trimmed in seconds and looks exactly the same.

Your files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to trim a video

  1. Drop the video on the page. MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM work, including iPhone HEVC and 4K.
  2. Choose the part to keep. Drag the red handles on the timeline, type the times, or play the video and press “[ Set start here” and “Set end here ]” (keyboard: [ and ]).
  3. Save. Choose where to save the file — it is written straight to disk, so even very large videos don’t need extra memory.

Fast or frame-accurate?

Compressed video is stored as keyframes (complete pictures) followed by frames that only describe changes. A copy can only start on a keyframe, because the frames before it are needed to draw the ones after.

For cutting a recording down to the interesting part, fast is almost always enough. For a clip that has to start on a precise word or beat, use frame-accurate.

Why not just use the Photos app?

Windows Photos and the iPhone Photos editor re-encode the whole video when you trim it, which takes time and often changes the format or lowers the bitrate. QuickTime on a Mac trims without re-encoding, but only MOV and MP4. This tool copies MKV, WebM, HEVC and AV1 too, keeps the original audio and never adds a watermark.

Trim, then compress

Trimming is the best way to make a video small: every second you remove is a second that doesn’t have to fit in a Discord or email limit. Trim here first, then drop the result into the compressor to get it under the size you need.

Questions

Does trimming reduce video quality?

Not in fast mode: the video and audio are copied bit for bit. Frame-accurate mode re-encodes at high quality, which is visually identical in practice.

Why does my trimmed video start a little earlier?

Fast mode can only start on a keyframe. Switch to frame-accurate if the exact first frame matters.

Is there a file size limit?

No. The video is processed on your computer and written directly to the file you choose.

Can I cut out a part from the middle?

Trim the two parts you want to keep one after the other. Removing a section in one step is planned.

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome, Edge and Opera on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS.
